Wisconsin's Shipwrecks
Wisconsin is hardly the state that conjures up images of Shipwrecks in the deep, but surprisingly some 700 shipwrecks from the past line Wisconsin shores. The great lakes are really inland seas, and can threaten sailors and boatmen with cold, storms, and waves up to 30 feet high. Over the past 100+ years Wisconsin was a major shipping region as boats brought cargo in and out of the great lakes waterways. Most made it in and out safely, but those that perished mostly still lie in the cold deep water, preserved.
