British influence is very apparent along the Bund in Shanghai, where there are dozens of majestic old buildings along a stretch of river where thousands stroll every day and evening.
Across the river from the bund is Pudong where growth is explosive as Chinaś economy continues to blossom.

The History Channel Rocks!
If you haven't watched the history channel lately you've been missing some of the best television in American. Unlike years ago where historical TV was recycled, boring fare that often had been dredged from old documentaries, the History Channel offers shows with intrigue, high production values, and superb graphics to illustrate the nuances of many cities, battles, and events.
I especially enjoyed the presentation about the true story of the battle between the Greeks and Persians which is fancifully depicted in the movie 300, but far more realistically assessed by the History Channel.

Oregon History
Here at Travel and History the goal is to connect people, places, and times. If you have a history website for your community that you would like featured here let us know.
An excellent recent example of a wonderful local history site is by the Talent Historical Society and features the history of Talent, Oregon. Now a quiet community of about 4,000 Talent enjoyed somewhat more prominence at the turn of the century as a farming community along the southern Oregon railroad, surrounded by Ashland, Medford, and Jacksonville.
My favorite part of the Talent website are the historical photos.

Santa Cruz, California
Santa Cruz, California remains a very popular travel retreat for Bay Area residents. Beautiful beaches and a charming town are the attractions here along with nearby Redwood forests and a relaxed atmosphere. Stroll the main street of Santa Cruz where you´ll find many small boutique shops as well as several excellent restaurants.
Perhaps the most historical feature of the town is the Mission Santa Cruz
founded hundreds of years ago as part of Californiaś mission system, which connected about 20 missions from the southernmost parts of the state north, though not to the current northern border.

California Travel
California...the name conjures in the imagination stunning mountains, raging rivers, and dramatic coastal scenery. Hollywood, Disneyland, Yosemite, Redwoods, San Franciso, LA to name but a few of the many natural and man-made attractions in this huge state.
Other major features of California include Death Valley, the Mojave Desert, the San Andreas Fault, the romantic San Francisco Bay area and the majestic Sequoias.
The American River is where gold was discovered in the 1800s. Now, Sutters Fort in downtown Sacramento offers a glimpse into that illustrious past.
California has over 200 state parks and recreational areas. National Parks are Yosemite, Kings Canyon, Redwoods, Lassen Volcanic, and Sequoia. State-sponsored attractions include Gray Whale Cove State Beach, McArthur-Burney Falls State Park, Tule Elk State Reserve, and many portions of the Redwood park system.
California's Central Valley with itś huge agricultural production is the dominant part of the central portion of the state.
Southern California is home to the most important ¨image makers"in the world, and what happens in Californa often becomes the new trend for the world.
